As some of you know, my B was a little sick, I narrowed it down to a fuel problem and I got her 80% perfect now but wont quit till I got her 100% PERFECT. It wasnt bad gas, it wasnt an internal or external leaky manifold, it wasnt ignition or bad valves. Its still a carb problem. I called Robert Beaver today who informed me it wasnt an incorrect fuel nozzle either. I took the carb to young Ben Grubb today and informed him what myself and Robert Beaver decided that it had to be getting excess gas elsewhere besides thru the load needle where its supposed to. Ben studied it and decided it may be leaking gas past the worn stem threads, down into the bottom brass nut, then up into the load nozzle. I wrapped thread tape on the stem threads and used an o ring at bottom in place of the gasket to seal the nut against the threads better. NOW it idles pefect, and runs up to 2/3 throttle perfect, and its only at full rpm that she runs a little too rich and sputters regardless if you lean the load screw. Ben thinks now maybe a few more rounds of thread tape ought to seal her so she runs off the load needle only and dont get any gas leaking past the threads to the nut inside bottom. To me, they are perfect when they run at any rpm and never sputter or miss out and do NOT governor hunt any at all. When they are RIGHT I like them NOT to pop or puff but to run steady and smooth and really only sound like a JD when under a good load and the sweet pop pop pop comes out. When a tractor sets there and pops and sputters and governor hunts they are not right in my opinion and I wont quit till mine dont do that but only makes that sweet steady load popping. I will keep you informed. Wish me luck Ol John T in Indiana

I told you it was the carb. But you are to smart to listen to me because you are some type of engineer. Well your getting closer but now you going after the wrong thing. Your carb is NOT leaking gas past the bottom nut. If you are setting your carb the same way you told the guy with an A, that is most of your problem.

Kindly lay off the "I told you so". This forum is here so we can help each other with their problems. John T. has given some real good advice to lots of folks. Let's just be glad he's getting the sick B healthy again.

Thanks Frank, yeah most of us here enjoy helping each other and appreciate it, but some guys have problems or it may be some buddy playing a little trick, either of which I simply ignore. (Besides, the problem IS gas leaking past the worn threads) John T

Did you check the air intake for restrictions? Around here the rats, wasps and dobbers will stop up most anything. Sounds like you're getting close though.

I know what you mean John. I had my 50 on the baler yesterday and was baling in soft ground. It worked it pretty hard but did it ever sound nice. Glad you are getting yours fixed.
