My neighbor has a Model D, Ser# 34441. It appears to have been originally painted red. All of the major cast parts have red paint and nothing under it. Just red paint, then metal. Also, the flywheel is spoked. Is this an odd ball Model D? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure about the red paint. I've heard that some of the major castings were painted to keep rust from forming, BUT the tractors I'm thinking of were in later years, and the primer was yellow.

The serial number is for a 1925 model D. And those had a spoked flywheel. In 1926, it was changed to a solid flywheel. There weren't too many "Spoker Ds" made. Less than 5000 I think.

Good Luck,
Brandon

P.S. Maybe some farmer in the past painted it with red oxide primer? Was/is there green over the red?

Nope, no green paint over the red paint. It's similar to Massey Ferguson Red. That's what puzzles us. Thanks for your reply! ~ Dave
