I have a noise in the clutch (knocking sound and vibration) at low rpm and goes away ,somewhat at high rpm only when belt wheel is engaged, but, comes back big time on a hard pull. I have some play (in and out) on the belt wheel, but nothing more then I have seen on some other local tractors. I have tightened the fly wheel, put a new bearing, race, cap washers, clutch friction plates in the belt wheel and made sure the arrowss line up on the shaft. There are two things I did not do, clutch fork bushing on shaft is sloppy and did not change the inner bushing like the "IT" manual talks about on the belt wheel shaft. Is this where my problems are or is it bigger then that? Is the belt wheel out of balance? (Belt wheel has a v shaped piece about 3/4" that cracked out). Does the inner bushing have to be pressed off and on? The old outer bearing was egged shaped and real worn, why it didn't fly apart I will never know. Thanks for the Help Howard Malon

Did you check your rod bearings? They are (so I'm told" babbit with shims for adjustments. Remember that stuff is all there together and all metal so sound can be transmitted from one piece to another?

I have a '48 A also. My rod bearings were loose. I vote with "steve from mo." That' what the sound source appears to be to me.
