My retired farm neighbor in East Central Indiana had a sale of tractors, old wagons, old equipment etc. today. A 1952 JD B, in running condition sold for $1,500. A repainted 1952 JD A sold for $2,500. I thought I would pass on these results.

This sale sounds strangely familiar! Can someone name the nearest town from the auction site for me? By familiar I believe I was there and I drove home the '52 A. It went for $2400 not $2500 (for the record). I plan to use it too.

Congratulations John! That A hasn't seen any work in at least 10 years. It sat in my barn the summer of 1994 while I was trying to get it started for Ernie. the auction was 2 1/2 miles northwest of Losantville, Indiana.

That makes me like my '51 JD A that I bought a few months ago soooo much better. It has the powrtrol lift, been repainted, good tires, new seat, new wiring, etc. I gave 1300 for the tractor.

I know Ernie was pleasantly surprised. He was hoping to get $1,000 for the B and $2,000 for the A. The auctioneer did a great job of advertising in the local area. A Farmall Super M brought a whopping $3,400-3,500. I didn't hear the exact figure.

At one time Ernie hinted about letting it retire at my farm. I think building a new house changed his priorities a tad. It was a good utility tractor to have around. We won't talk about backing up wagons and hand clutches though..... .

I think the hand clutch is great for backing up to hook up to impliments you can backup that little bit more without even getting on.

How did we get to hand clutches from auction prices? But anyway the safe way is to back a little too close to the implement then run the tractor AHEAD as you stand on the ground. Of course the safer way is to NOT move the tractor unless you are on the platform. Getting squished ain't no fun. Bob

You wouldn't catch me doing that. It sounds dangerous.
