I know the 1947 was the first year of the M. I don't know anything about JDs. What size, weight, HP class is the M in? Owner saye it has a 3 PT hitch...would this be a factory or add-on? He says it is in overall fair to good condition, rubber, tin, paint. Needs a starter ring gear (means splitting tractor I assume).

What would this tractor be worth assuming it runs OK? Thanks...BB

ou might check the serial number. I believe the 40 started at 60001 so your "M" should be lower than that. Not sure where they stopped. Good luck, Bob

Bama Binder,
I'm no expert, but I bought a 1949 JD M last August. That model did not come from the factory with a 3 pt. set up. I've got about $1900 in this tractor which came with a 5 ft. Agri-Supply pull from behind mower with a rear discharge. I am located in Piedmont North Carolina. Hope this helps.
Regards,

The M's did not come from the fractory with three point and JD NEVER made a three point kit for them either. The only way it have an original type 3 - point on it is if it's a Model 40 the next series newer. Otherwise it's probably a poor set up on the three point. Joe

i have a 1947 john deere model M and it came w/a three point hitch from the factory it was the first three point hitch john deere made to try and keep up w/ford furguson. when i went out to buy my john deere the battery was the only thing wrong w/it but i paid $900 and drove it home.i wouldn"t pay any more than $1500 and research how to fix that starter first.
