Does anyone know about a No. 44 (2) bottom trailer plow? How old? What size hydraulic cylinder can be used? Can you still get parts for it?

John, The 44 plow was built from 1945-1957. They were often pulled by John deere A or B tractors and could use the corresponding hydraulic cylinder which was 3" for the A and 2 1/2" for the B. By the way, if it has hydraulic lift it is either a 44H or a 44AH the 44H transports on 2 wheels and the 44Ah will follow you down the road on all three wheels. Some parts are still available from JD but probably not the ones you need. If it came on rubber tires the sizes are 5.50x16 for the land wheel and furrow wheel. The rear wheel is a 4.00x12. Can't imagine having to go to Europe for those sizes. Often steel wheels were cut down and any handy rim was welded on, these are easily spotted since original rubber tires came on round spoke wheels and cut downs were kind of an oval spoke. Like Stan said, you can't beat the parts and op manuals from John Deere. Good luck, Bob

I just finished restoring one... Parts for them are no longer available so start searching the salvagte yards, We ended up getting the drive tire from Yugoslavia because they don't make tires like that in that size anymore... E-mail me and I can tell you some info as I have the manual for it.

Thanks,

Karl

The No. 44 plow goes back to the mid '40s, I'd say. My first remembrance of them is from the time when the late styled A, B & G tractors came out in 1947 - They were called "Truss Frame" plows.

Can't help on the hydraulic cylinder question - we only had one size back in those days.

The Operator's Manual is OMA1352 and the Parts Catalog is PC402 (01MAY59).

Stan
