Will,
According to the information on "Rummy's John Deere Page" the 1950 John Deere "B" has a rated horsepower of 24.6 at the drawbar and 27.6 at the belt/pulley.

Gary, our 48 B makes 20hp on the PTO. We just replace the rings on the cast pistons and cleaned up the valves. It works just fine in a 4500 pulling class.

Burnsy,

You have me a little confused. I was only supplying information that I got from "Rummy's John Deere Page", as I mentioned. I think that information was supposed to be the rated horsepower of the tractor when it was new, which I assumed is what the guy who asked the question wanted to know. How did you determine the HP of your tractor? Also, I am interested in pulling myself, but my tractor has piston ring problems too, I believe, and I wowuld like to have you tell me exactly what you did to get your tractor competitive. (My tractor is a '47 or '48.) (I took a compression test and I have 39# on one cylinder and 90# on the other, so I know I gotta do something.)
