Diesel Injection Pump Alignment.

I've run into a big problem with my JD 2010 restoration - the Roosa Master diesel injection pump that i just had serviced and tested wont go back onto its mounting. I know i have the oil pump slot in the right place, because its exactly as it says in the manual that also has a picture of what its supposed to look like. But when i align the timing scribe lines on the diesel pump the drive shaft is approx 90 degrees away from a position that would enable me to slip the diesel pump in so that it slots into the oil pump top.

I have number one at TDC on its compression stroke. I know the cam / crank timing gears are right ( i photographed em before i put the front cover back on ) & the flywheel has a dowel, so one cant get that on wrong.

Even is the engine was wrong however, the actual position of the slot in the top of the oil pump is at the correct angle so i should be able to get the diesel pump back on when i have its timing scrible lines aligned? Right?

I have considered dropping the sump, and simply rotating the oil pump drive geat 90 degrees anticlockwise - then the diesel pump would fit on - as even though the oil pump gear isnt as it says it should be in the manual, the diesel pump - engine timing should still work??

Help????? Is this a problem with the diesel pump, or have i just messed this up totally? I could understand if i was 180 degrees out, but 90???

All help appreciated.

Jim.

Jim, have you allowed for the turning of the gear teeth due to the helical gears? If you line up the slots and then drop the pump in it will be off about what yours will be. Something to think about. Hope this helps. Mike
