Okay, this isnt tractors like my old quiz questions were, but its still a "farm related" quiz. My Uncle Charles in Loogootee Indiana (where I grew up) who passed away years ago, loved to ask me gag questions, but this one actually has a simple correct math answer which isnt really hard but still fun. If it takes a chicken and a half a day and a half to lay an egg and a half, how long would it take 3 chickens to lay 3 eggs????? John T

Wow I never imagined so much interest. The correct answer is easy and simple, its a day and a half. Think about it, twice as many chickens (2 x 1.5 = 3) can lay twice as many eggs (2 x 1.5 = 3) in the SAME time, 1.5 days. Ol John T

You don't have twice as many chickens - you now have three which is three times as many chickens and they can lay three eggs between them in one day (3x1.5=4.5 total egge in 1.5 days or 3 eggs in one day).

Check your math. 1.5 x 2 = 3 that is 2x as many chickens as 1.5 not 3 times.

He said how long for 3 chickens. 2 chickens is
twice as many. 3 chickens would be three times
as many. Check your math.

Sorry, but Uh? was right. 3=2x1.5, so it is 2 times as many chickens, and not 3. 3 times 1.5 would have been 4.5 chickens. I'll be damned where you could get a 1/2 chicken that still lays eggs though.

Looks like we have to convince some of the correct answer, and I was almost one of them. You can look at it like it takes one chicken 1-1/2 days to lay one egg, and it takes 1/2 a chicken 1-1/2 days to lay 1/2 an egg. This gives you your 1-1/2 days and 1-1/2 eggs. The eggs add up, but the time is concurrent. So the base unit is one egg per 1-1/2 days per chicken. Three chickens producing three eggs still gives you a 1:1 ratio at the base rate, which is 1-1/2 days. It can be confusing.....

I disagree. It takes .5 day to lay .5 of an egg, so 1 day to lay 1 egg. Start three chickens at the same time and after one day you will get one egg from each of them, 3 eggs. Let them go on for another .5 day and you will get another .5 egg from each one. After 1.5 days you would get a total of 4.5 eggs.

the math may be correct, but I will stand by one day, and i'll keep my chickens since i get more eggs in less time which means less feed and more to eat.

John,

You must be having a chuckle with this one. I want to see you convince everyone of the correct answer. I have seen people really struggle with the reasoning.
