On a console 4020 the three point hitch won't raise as high as it should. On the other end of the scale it drops almost low enough to touch the ground. The lever doesn't seem to travel back all the way back in the slot either. the L&D lever is in the L position to work the best. any ideas? thanks in advance !!!!!

Jim,
As Oaktree says, try the different draft control settings to see if it makes a difference. I would also check your console to make sure the stops aren't interfering. There's the threaded one for depth and an eccentric one for a height stop. The simple things first. If still binding or stopping, unhook linkage from the arm on the side of the control valve and move it by hand. Also the linkage to the console should flop around. Try these and post back. twopop mentions a cable. The cable was used on pre-'69 models. I've had the problem on my 3020, but it doesn't apply if this tractor is a side console.

The L&D lever you spoke of is for Draft control
The L is for load the D is for depth.
It's possible that the load sensors in the lower arms are trying to lower the hitch to "Load" the tractor or they are damaged. I run in the the D
or Depth Position as I don't want load sensing to control the 3 pt hitch.I want the hitch lever to control the position or depth of the hitch. try the other position and let us know If this helps.

Check your linkage for bent, frozen and worn parts. It sounds like something between the console lever and control lever is bent or bindind up. I hope it`s this simple! Scott

the cable down at the rockshaft may be out of the clamp, which could cause the lever problem.also the links between the rock shaft and the lift arms may be screwed out as far as possible, this would make the lift arms very close to the ground and also not raise high enough
