What a tough way to get a tractor! Grew up on a '47 B, have a '49 in the polebarn right now. Feel free to contact me too. We have the Pipps book, and the I&T Shop Manual, available from most Quality Stores, and Tractor Supply stores. Both are good reference. Good luck!

You should order the parts and service manuals from Deere to help figure out what parts you've got and where they go.

bob (and Karl),

I have this book also, and I am also just getting into this. I've found this book quite helpful, although some people have critisized Mr. Pripps on this forum. There is no doubt this book is a good reference for a beginner. But nothing will substitute the IT and Operators manuals that can still be bought reasonably at JOhn Deere dealers, at least in my area. And even more importantly, nothing can substitute for the help you get right here on this and other John Deere forums. I hesitate to refer you to specific people for help, but if you read this forum (and Rummys John Deere Bulletin Board) for about a week, you will get a feel for what goes on here.
Good Luck, have fun
Gary
