I purchased a 1954 JD 70 recently and it has a straight pipe for an exhaust. It's so loud my wife won't let me run it when she's around. Since I'd like to keep her a while longer(my wife that is) can I purchase a muffler for the tractor and can you suggest a source. Thanks

Jim-- If you want to quiet it down (your wife) buy a round muffler. If you want to make her smile (your wife he-hee) put an oval muffler on it. The oval muffler is much easier on the ears plus you can talk while it's running. Just a thought. luckydog

JOHN DEERE MUFFLERS ARE THE ONLY ONE'S THAT SOUND RIGHT . SURE THE OTHERS ARE CHEAPER BUT THEY SOUND THAT WAY TOO.

The oval muffler from the 730 should retrofit. If shed doorway clearance allows a length of pipe after the muffler assists quieting even more.

Your'e local J.D. dealer should be able to get you one. If you have a central tractor store near you try there first its probably far cheaper there. Also theres a store called fleet-farm that probably has them for a fair price.
