I thought I had just about finished my restoration on my 1010 but have encountered a problem with the power steering. It seems like the steering valve is rapidly changing back and forth causing the front wheels to shake uncontrolably. I had the steering valve out as I had to rebuild the engine, however I did not take it apart hoping that it was probaly ok. The tractor had not been driven for about 15 years due to major engine failure and as the rest did not appear to have seen much use I hoped the steering valve was the same. I have the service manual which doesn't go into symptoms or problems but does say that the return line should be filled during reasembly to prevent air lock. Of course I never read that until after the fact. I believe that may be my problem and have tried turning the wheels to extreme left and right to purge the air. Does that work on these systems? Should I be looking at something else before I take it apart?
Thanks for any ideas

Have you rebuilt the steering housing ? Just in front of the radiator is the location and if you take the top off the housing there is a worm gear that drives the shaft that turns the wheels. (I don't have the shop manual here to give specific names.)On mine the pins and the gear both have a lot of wear and the front end wobbles at high speed because of this. Hope this helps.

It seems that I have a problem also. This 1010 seems that the steering valve has been replaced but? The wheels turn all the way left and stay there. I removed the valve and hydro-checked it. It seems that the valve does not divert flow from left to right. I have disassemblwed the valve and can find nothing wrong with it internal !. Maybe it was installed out of time. How can I re-install and be sure it is correctly time / and installed in the correct direction?
