We are looking for any information on a possible JD cross with the JD410 loader/backhoe. We need a right rear drive assembly - used is okay, but the cost of new parts is too high to justify fixing this old worker. Is there a farm tractor with similiar drive to the JD410? There are lots of tractors hereabouts but we can not find any information on a possible cross, or a source of used parts. Thanks for any information!

What exactly happened to the old one?? did a bearing fail ??? sometimes they look worse than they really are and can be repaired without total replacement..

Well, this certainly looks bad. The roller bearings have come apart, chewed the splines on the short driveshaft right off, spread throughout the planetary gears - seizing them so no movement is possible. Also cracked the planetary gear housing. JD wants $500 for just the short shaft, never mind the bearings, housing, etc. You have to pull the hoe attachment off in order to get the drive assembly out of there. A lot of work, but we really need the machine for Spring. I have tried a few used equip. places here in B.C. Alberta, and Ontario, but no luck so far. We are close to the U.S. border so going to Spokane Wa. isn't a problem. Trouble is finding names and numbers of used parts suppliers in U.S. Thanks for your interest!

I'm from the other side of the U.S...not sure about parts suppliers in that area...the Deere dealers should be willing to help locate used pieces !! Also...you don't need to remove the backhoe to remove the axle assembly...remove wheel....with a jack under the swing frame and the machine supported on a stand placed about a foot or two in front of the cab support,.knockout the pin that joins the upper tie bar to the backhoe frame....sometimes a little heat is needed to assist in the pin removal...there is a bolt thru it also..after removing the cab support bolts and that chunk of cast iron ,.place a bottle jack as far forward as it will fit between the main frame and the upper tie bar and jack the cab up slightly...also remove the bleed screw on top of the axle...this will allow clearance to slide the assembly out...thge machine isnt that old that it isnt worth fixing ...unless there are other drastic problems

Hey, thanks for that information on how to get the assembly out without removing the hoe. It will save untold hours, and as the hoe bucket is right up against the garage door, it would have meant opening it up to the cold. Brrr... Goes to show ya that the books ain't always right, and there are plenty of shortcuts when you are experienced. Yes, the wretched machine is worth fixing as it sure saves a lot of labour and has really been a reliable old workhorse. Thanks for the info, and I will do a search around Spokane for parts.
