I have found a problem with the cast plate on the bottom of the seed canister. It has grooves worn in, not bad until right before the corn goes under the finger (remember this is a Plate planter) and enters the knocker/hole. The groove here is about an inch long and .060 deep. A new plate is $65 ea. My question is, has anyone repaired these by welding and grinding? I am afraid of warping the plate, but will try unless anyone has a better idea. I have heard that you can fliip this plates upside down, but there is a groove built into the plate I am assuming for something other than corn. Thanks for any help!

Green guy, that sounds like normal wear. If it hasn't worn out to the cut-off tongue, it probably won't affect the performance of your planter. You will want to be sure the cut-off tongue doesn't have a groove worn in it. My latest Shoup catalog lists the floor plates at $13.85 each, and $3.09 for the plastic adaptor you will have to use with these newer plates. Hope this helps. Mike
