I bought a Model B that the previous owner had converted to 12 volts (well, he put a 12 volt battery in it and an alternator, but never bothered to wire in the alternator). My question concerns the ignition coil. Can I run the original 6-volt coil, and if so, should I wire a ballast resistor in series with the points to keep them from burning up? Thanks for your responses!

Bob, if that tractor has the Wico distributor 12 volts will definitely harm it. Yes, a ballast resistor would be a good idea no matter what distributor it has & you will be able to use the 6 volt coil. Keep in mind most alternators try to hold the system voltage at about 14.2 volts.
