Hi all. My JD 60 with Delco-Remy distributor is not getting any spark. I have checked with my multimeter and the coil is getting 12 volts to it. I have replaced the coil, points, condenser, cap, rotor, wires (with JD recommended solid copper), and it has D21 plugs in it that were working fine until a week ago. Holding coil's exit wire to the block shows no spark trying to jump the gap. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Joel, if the high side of coil has voltage to it as you say, to get a high voltage spark out the terminal, the low (points) side of coil has to connect to ground via the closed points and then open when points are open. If you put a test light on the coils low (points) side and crank the engine, the light should go on (points open) and off (points closed) and if thats not happening, it will never fire, so check to see if the points are indeed opening and closing and not always grounded out or wires to it grounded as clooney was talking about. If you unhook the low sides coil wire from the distributor, and use a jumper to touch it to ground, when you unhook that jumper, a coil wire out the top should arc a spark to ground to see if the coil is okay. Joel, a common problem with that Delco dist is that the little insulating washers on the points stud get put back in wrong & the points remain grounded all the time. Put your volt meter on the coil terminal that goes to the dist, then open & close the points & look for 0 volts points closed & 12 volts points open, if no voltage change then there is problem with the points or their installation or the wire between the coil & points.

just by what you have done it would suggest may be that coil is faulty.you can have voltage to the coil and still not get any spark. if have one try another coil.if not you canfind one fairly cheap at your local autowrecker.
