I read the push rod tubes could be replaced using the correct tools without removing the head. Didn't say what the tools were or how to do it. Anyone done this procedure on the tractor? Thanks! Joe in ny

Joe--You can do this but be very careful. Think you can take a small punch or chiesel and get under the lip of the push rod tube then pull it out. Takes some work but maybe it will save you some time. It does have a tappered end that goes in first. Take time and you can do it. luckydog

Joe, its been a while, but I could swear they had one larger end and it went into and was driven in from the inner (piston) side of the head towards the outside of head????? Anyway, it helps to place the tubes in the freezer before you insert them and we used the exact size of a bushing driver and it worked well. Maybe we will both learn something here if what you say is posible. Ol John T in Indiana

1950 Motor's Truck & Tractor Repair Manual, page 773. 'Note that the rear end of the of the sleeves are about .002" smaller in diameter than is the front end and this smaller end goes toward the crankcase...'...'NOTE--If no other work is required, sleeves may be removed without removing the cylinder head from the tractor. After removing rocker arms and push rods, pull out the sleevs with a suitable puller.' I'm pretty sure mine are leaking and sure would like to find a simple way out. Thanks, John T! Appreciate the input. Joe Fabregas

Joe, it'd be a neat trick to be able to do that, but I'm not sure what a "suitable puller" would be! They do go in with the small end towards the crankcase, so really only the last 5/8 of an inch or so needs to be pressed in. I just replaced mine, but pulled the head to do it. I wasn't sure of the condition of the head gasket, so pulled the head and then had the valves and seats touched up as well. And with the head laying on the workbench, it's real simple to replace the pushrod tubes. Now I know it's good to go for another 50 years.
