I have a JD 420T with a hairline crack in one of the cylinder walls. I am going to have it sleeved as was advised by this message board, but I am concerned about the crack possibly spreading. I was thinking that maybe if the ends of the cracks were drilled, that would stop it spreading; or possibly if it were welded and then bored and sleeved, that may prevent future degredation. Are either of these two options viable? Should this crack even be a major concern, or should I just bore it and sleeve it as that will at least seal it off? Thanks.

Had the same problems sometime ago. Replaced the block. You should be able to look around and find a good used block probably no more than the cost of machine work. You'll always be thinking about the repair work and if you want to sell will be asked....

If you are that worried about it,try to find another block and sell your old one and retrieve some of your money back.It might be the best thing for your own piece of mind. That way you won't worry about it,you will know.I am sure there is somebody who has one reasonably priced out there.Just my thoughts and good luck.
