Ok here is what it does. We have changed the spark plugs, checked the points and all that good stuff, adjusted the carborator and we cannot get the thing to run under load. Best we can do is get up to half throttle and then the tractor starts skipping out. It seems to run better on a full tank of fuel compared to when the tank is getting low. Any suggestions?

DO YOU HAVE BOTH THE VAPOR AND LIQUID VALVES OPEN?

No, we have always run it and started it on vapor and when it gets lower on fuel switch over to liquid. We worked on it today and changed the points and all that good stuff and can't get it to start at all so we'll have to work on it more tomorrow if we get the chance. My dad ran a wire up the air pipe after taking off the oil bowl and had a lot of "goop" come out so we are going to clean that out and see if we can increase our airflow to the carborator.

Jeff, you should switch to liquid after the engine warms up no matter what the fuel level. Did you check the advance weights in the distributor ? if the weights are stuck the timing may be late at higher rpm's but will idle ok. If the air cleaner system is dirty it may not be letting enough air in at higher rpm's, this would be the same as the choke being on & it takes VERY little movement of the choke disk on an LP to kill the engine, try it sometime just barely pull out the choke & it'll probably die. You may have to take the whole air cleaner assembly off & soak it in a bucket of something, I did that on my 720 diesel several years ago & you'd be surprised how much dirt comes out. I don't remember what I used though wether it was solvent, gasoline or diesel. Keep us posted on what you find....Roger
