The rockshaft/lift housing under the seat of my 3020 seems to be getting very hot. If I don't have anything on the lift it seems to want to ride up a little. I also noticed when I shut the tractor off the lift bleeds down. Anyone else have a simular problem?

If the heat buildup is shortly after starting it, it could be caused by an internal leak. Feel the rockshaft housing, transmission, and all over with your hand for localized hot spots. The leak us usually near the hot areas. If it gets hot after working the tractor hard all day it could be normal. You mentioned the rockshaft drifting up and leaking down. Most likely a leak. Yes, those thermal relief valves get a speck of dirt stuck in them once in a while which caused a leak and the symptoms you described.

Sounds like you need some adjustments. If the cable adj. is off ,if the Thermo reliefe valve is leaking or the valves in the rockshaft valve are leaking this can all cause this . Can you hear a high pitched squeal from the valve hsng? the thermo valve will do this. The hyd. should run 100* over outside temp. Hope this helps some Don

If your hydraulic system is overheating try cleaning the oil cooler in front of the radiator and changing the filter. According to John Deere it is normal for the 3 PT to settle after the engine is shut off.
