I purchased a 1929 john deere D with a brass tag, but not real sure that I have a brass tag john deere. I'm a little weak on the history of the brass tag use. Could somebody help me out.

What years were the John Deer Model D built?
Did they build them bigger the later years?

"Brass Tag" is essentially a meaningless term. All JD tractors from 1923 through the end of the 1935 model year were equipped with brass serial number plates. After that, the serial number plates were made from a variety of materials, aluminum, steel, and occasionally brass, depending on which metal was most available, and the cheapest. There are some collector's who place great value on the "brass tag" tractors that they have, but all it really means is that the serial number tag was made of brass---no big deal.

Thanks for the post stranger. I am sure this is not the only misinformation I have that will be debunked. The most important feature of these forums is education. jwb
