I have a 41B w/ 3 point and use a 72 inch Model 272 JD Finish mower. In heavy weeds it wont pull it. As a finish mower it works great but it's not a brushcutter. Depends on what you are cutting I guess.

Jim,

I have used our '49B to mow our pasture with. It can handle a 5ft hog in grass that is mowed often. I have tried using a 6ft mower and the tractor really has to work and wont make it through any grass that is thick. If your going to mow grass that is high with brush, I would recommend using a 4ft mower. Hope this helps
Ziggy

What year is your B? The old unstyled B's are going to be low on power for a bushhog. A late gas B should handle a 5 foot OK. There is quite a bit of difference between the various models of B's in horsepower and utility. That's my opinion, anyway.

I have had several B's with 3 point hitches and recommend a 5' bushog. Tractor is only 28 H.P. and to clarify matters, you need both a slip clutch on your bushog and an override clutch. Override goes at the tractor and the slip clutch goes on the bushog. Just rebuilt a transmission for a man that couldn't afford a 60 slip clutch. Also you want to run the engine at high speed so to avoid the stroke torque of the engine.

I have just bought 10 acres mostly pastureand i can almost mow it with my rider but it would take days but i have a jd b and i really don't want to sell it to buy one that will mow my property so my question was what is the best way to mow it ?does a bush hog take more horspower than a finishing mower ? thanks for all the help. I have an 84" finish mower on a '49 A. Seems to work. Biggest lawn mower in the neighborhood!

I've used a JD 127 mower, 5 foot, with a B and have not had problems.

I pull a 6 foot, with my 50 B. Does well in small brush, rose bushes, weeds, not well in matted grass. Creeper gear only, and keep blades sharp. Russ.

P.S. be sure and use an overrunning clutch on the PTO. Russ
