My son-in-law was backing up, with his 2010, he had it in 2 reverse and then shifted to 4 reverse. The shift lever went into 4 reverse but the tractor is in neutral. The shift lever is jammed and won't move. What should we look for that could be causing this? This tractor has the shift lever to the right side of the steering wheel. Thank you for your help.

I would first disconnect the linkage rods (there are two of them) on the left side of the transmission to see if its a linkage or a tranny problem. If the linkage seems ok, try to manually move the shifter arms that are sticking out of the left side of the tranny. If its the rear arm that won't move, it may be necessary to pop the top off the tranny (a major undertaking requiring the removal of the remote hydraulic valve under steering wheel and removal of cowl) because Deere poorly designed the shift mechanism and a roller (part #T13225) can pop off, fall down to the bottom of the fluid reservoir and leave the shifting cam hung up. This is most likely to happen when the transmission is in 8th speed forward (I have avoided putting my tractor in this speed since it happened to me). Deere has since re-designed this part so it won't pop off. If its the front shifting arm that won't move, you may find some success with moving the tractor back and forth while gently tapping on this arm. You may still have to pop the top. Good luck.

My cousin used to have one of those and the gearshift was always hanging up. We had to play with it. Try to move it back to park and shift through some gears and see what happens. I don't know squat about how it works in the trans.

I beleive the 2010's have the two shift levers between your legs. If this is the case then take the shift cover off and remove the snapring holding in the stuck shifter and pull shifter up out of the housing. Then, take a prybar and shift the transmission in neutral. You will see the shofter rails and on top of them is a slot where the shifter fork sits. Just line up both shifter rails. The older Farmall 560's, and even some Steigers used to do the same thing. Just don't hurry when shifting and don't force a shift.
