I have added hyd fluid, changed the filter. Still can't get the 3 point hitch down. Did I break the cam or gears inside?

It could be the rate of drop screw is turned all the way in. Try backing it out a couple of turns. It is located in the top of the rockshaft housing under the front middle of the seat. It looks like a bolt head.

Done that and no luck. Just before it stopped it did work backwards.

Thanks

It went BACKWARDS??? Make sure the "green side" of the tractor is UP and the "greasey side" of the tractor is DOWN. :)

Seriously, the JD Rockshaft adjustments are a bit tricky because they involve six sequentual adjustments. None of these six adjustments are complicated, however. The adjustments will asure your load and depth control, raise/lower speed and control lever positions all working together.

The I & T Manuals are very informative for performing these adjustments.

I pop the top off. I found a piece of the linkage had lost it retainer clip and came loose. I don't have any manuals. I borrowed it from a friend. I do want to fix it right before I return it. Is it normal for the oil to look like it has water in it? How much oil does it hold?

Thanks
The grease it up and the green side slides on the ground.

It is not nomal for the oil to look like it has water in it, but very possible, the Oil should not have water in it. If it does you should change it. The shifters are where water usually gets in.
