The pto on my 1120 works, but, when I disingage the pto shaft with the lever, the pto still turns. If there is enogh friction on the pto shaft, it will stop, but it needs a lot of friction!
I have lifted off the pto lever cover, looked at the oil flow "rod" that is different diameters, found a small chip, but not enough to engage the clutch (I dont think?).
Don't know whether it is the flow "rod" or something else?
Thanks for any help.

you probably have independent hydraulically engaged p.t.o.
in this system there is a p.t.o. clutch and a p.t.o. brake that is supposed to stop the p.t.o. shaft when disengaged due to the drag in the clutch.
your problem seems to be in the p.t.o. brake.
you should check the pressure in the brake (one of the plugs on the shift cover). if pressure is ok, the brake band inside the tractor is probably stripped or broken.

Today I undone both of the plugs before I read this, put the pto in gear, turned the engine over and oil come out. Did the same with the other one, and oil came out there too. (unfortionatly the engine started and squirted it all over me!!)
so it definatly has a brake that isn't working.

I quess the brake band is a difficult fix, and prettty expensive to get it fixed?

Replacing the PTO brake band involves splitting the tractor between the clutch housing and transmission case. The bearing support then must be removed from the transmision case, but first the rockshaft cover must come off so a snap ring on the counter shaft can be removed. A very labor intensive undertaking. Good Luck.

there should be pressure only in one plug (i d'ont remember which)when the p.t.o. is engaged, and in the other plug when p.t.o. is disengaged(and brake is engaged). ther shold not be pressure in both plugs.
better use a pressure gauge 9pressure is about 110 p.s.i.)
