Does this size tractor have a enough umph to handle 5ft brush hog on 20 acres, some briars and johnson grass. It's grown up pretty good. Tractor does have wide front end

I have a 3 point mounted 5' bush hog on my '47 B and have run almost all day with no problems. I run her full throttle, and love the sound when she hits some really thick grass going up hill. Just remember, when you disengage the clutch, the momentum of the mower will continue to push the tractor until either the blades stop, you disengage the pto, or you go through the neighbors fence :) Hope your neighbor is as understanding as mine! Good luck.

this has nothing to do with your question, but I always love to hear the sound of my friend bushogging with his G. Specially when he hits a thick spot. puttputt.puttputt.puttputt..boom boom..boom boom....boom booooom..puttputt.puttputt

Jerry, you shouldn't have any problem. I use a 5' brush hog on a late "B" at times & haven't had any problem running it. High weeds while going up a steep hill will test it some though.

Thanks for the comments, turns out to be 1948 if I'm reading s/n correct 235213, which I believe has the smaller engine maybe too small ??

All John Deere B's 1947 thru 1952 have the same engine and the same power. I pull a 6 foot Bush hog, but you can expect problems with grass, not weeds, rosebushes etc. A 6' would be about right for a late model A. Russ

the tractor has adequate power for the 5' bushog and should handle it in 3 rd gear. One thing to do is add a slip clutch and an override clutch. The slip clutch will save your transmission. Also on the 2 cylinder do not run at low speed as surging torque is bad for the transmission and clutch. Keep it reved up and be careful.
