I just finally got my rebuilt engine back into my 1020 diesel and started it this afternoon.

I had a diesel mechanic rebuild the engine with a kit from Maxiforce, which included a new oil pump, a new crankshaft, and a complete kit. I also had the injector pump overhauled and bought new injectors.

When I started it for the first time today, it smoked like crazy - it filled my garage so bad that I couldn't see daylight out of my open garage doors!!!!

Can this be part of the rings seating? Will it ever get better? The only two things which I know of that could be causing it are (1) I flushed out the fuel tank with boiling water and then added 5 gallons of diesel. I may not have got all of the water out of the tank. or (2) one of the injector connections didn't thread correctly and was leaking a little around the top of the injector.

Can anyone help????? I'm thinking of draining the 5 gallons of diesel and refilling the entire tank along with conditioner. I will also remove the injector and ensure that it's installed correctly before I run it again.

Thanks for any suggestions!!!

Could be the combination of new engine and your pump turned up a little heavy. It doesn't take a lot of diesel smoke out of a cold engine to fill a garage.

I think I fingured out what's wrong - the timing is off. My only problem now is that while installing the CB injection pump, I didn't listen to my wrench as I tightened the pump into the studs and I broke one of the flanges off the side of the pump!!!!

HELP - can I fix this with JB Weld? I looks like the housing is made out of aluminum and these mounts only hold the pump from rotating aroung its axis (which alters the timing).

Anyone ever use JB Weld to fix this????
