1st Tractor, when I bought it, last week, Guy said it had been overhauled. Shift lever extension was gone (1st clue ??)so I didn't operate it.
Tried operating with pto engaged and dis-engaged..

Jerry, can you hear the pump labor & the engine work a little harder when you try to raise it? If so the rock shaft is probably already in the up position & you will need to put the lever in the down position & put a BIG wrench on the square of the rock shaft & rotate the shaft to the down position before it will go up when the lever is moved to up. There is no power down.

The oil many suggest using is 30 weight. I have also heard some use 20 weight. As far as drawings, there is some information in todd's tractor pages website and it would be good to grab onto a shop manual for the tractor. There is a separate one for just the power-trol that the deere dealers can get. The drain for the lift is a pipe plug straight below the PTO shaft. You might see what is in the bottom if it has water in it etc. Also, you have to have the pto running to make the pump work. I think it is a good idea to try to move the shaft a little to see if it is frozen or not. I wonder if it is just low on oil. Good luck.

The piston could be frozen, also for Rock-shaft operation the setting on the metering screw is 2 turns out. The plugs should have 2 holes, one in the end and one horizontal. Russ
