1952 B Need measurement on transmission input shaft

Just tore down the transmission on the B, and had quite a few real sloppy bearings, but thankfully the shafts all appear to be OK. I would like to know what the measurement of the bearing surface on the input shaft of the transmission should be. I'm talking about the shaft the large reduction gear fits on, and the surface where the large roller bearing rides. Mine measures 1.831, but I don't know if that's OK or not. The surface doesn't look too worn, but the bearing is real loose on the shaft. I know the bearing needs to be replaced, but sure would like to reuse the input shaft if I can. Also, on the differential bearings, are they adjusted on both sides, or do you just shim one side until you have the proper clearance?

I have some additional info. I measured the shaft on either side of the area where the rollers run, and it measured 1.845, vs the 1.831 where the rollers run, so it would appear that I've got some pretty significant wear on the shaft. Can anybody confirm this?

Thanks!

Bob, I can't give you the shaft dimension you need but if you can post of send me the actual bearing number that is on the bearing I will check my references & in most cases can give you the bearing I.D., O.D., & width. With that info you should be able to get close on shaft size due to a light press fit.

Clooney, the rollers ride directly on the shaft, so knowing the ID of the bearing really wouldn't tell me what the OD of the shaft bearing surface should be, since the required clearance would also have to be added, and I don't know what the clearance should be. All I do know for sure is that the bearing I took out is really loose. On the bench, with the bearing on the shaft, I can stick a .032 feeler gauge between the shaft and any of the rollers. That seems way too loose to me.

Bob, post the bearing number & we'll see what the bearing I.D. is supposed to be. You have the shaft O.D. so we'll see what clearance you will have with a new bearing.

Clooney, the information stamped on the bearing is HYATT 1307TG. The part number in the John Deere manual is JD 7973 R.

Bob, unfortunatly I show that bearing in my reference chart but don't have an I.D. shown, if I get a chance on monday I will call my bearing vendor for sizes & post it.

Bob, didn't answer the diff. question in first post!.....The diff. adjustment is done on the L/H side with just a gasket used on right side.
