I just purchased a late JD "A" that neeeds to be completely re-wired. I don't have a problem with the basics, but since the generator / voltage regulator were dis-assembled, I'm not sure how to wire the charging system. I believe that the "A" terminal on the generator goes to the underside lug on the regulator, the "F" terminal to the "F" on the regulator, but do I run a wire from the "L" terminal on the regulator to the neg side of the ammeter, with the positive side connected via short lead to the cold side of the switch? (I am using a master dis-connect in place of the old key cylinder, cutting all power unless turned on). Also, should hte coil be wired with the hot lead going to the neg. terminal? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Phil, the (Fld) terminal on the regulator goes to the (F) post on the generator, the (Gen) terminal or wire on the regulator goes to the (A) post on the generator, the (Bat ) terminal on the regulator goes to the big battery wire that goes to the (ammeter), the (L) terminal on the the regulator goes to the ignition (S/W) load or power terminal . In your case you would want to run the (L) load wire to your disconnect S/W. The reason there is a (load) terminal on the regulator is to better control & isolate the battery charging part from the operating current part of the charging system, the (L) & (BAT) terminals actually hook together in the regulator.
