I hear the gasket that connects the governor to the main case is not available anymore. Low and behold, I need to get a replacement for this 49A and need advice on the best way to go. I assume I need to make it out of a paper material but don't know what thickness to use. Not sure if that thickness is critical or not. Thanks for your help.

The governor gasket is not available anywhere or how that I know for the A. It is available for the B, But the crankcase gasket isn't. But for the A the crankcase is. Now if they could only come together and make a COMPLETE set.

On the governor for my 50, I went to the auto parts store and bought a roll of the tan-colored gasket material that was wide enough to cover the base of the housing. I don't remember the exact thickness but it was close to the thickness of the original gasket -- somewhere between 20 and 30 thousandths. Just make sure there is a little positive clearance between the cam and governor gear teeth. Also be sure to cut a hole for the oil passage into the governor from the crankcase. Good luck.
