Can anyone tell me how to go about converting my 64 model 2010(gas) over to an alternator charging system?

After you install alt & change system polarity, you`ll have to replace fuel guage, for some reason neg ground blows orig guage.

If your 2010 has a positive ground 12volt system you will need to do the following: install a single post 12 volt alternator and run a 10 ga wire from the single post on alternator to the hot post on your starter, then change the polarity of the electrical system by swapping the battery posts/cables (+to- and -to+), disconnect/remove the voltage regulator and any other wires going to the present generator system. This has worked well on my 3010 that I converted several years ago.

The coil will have to sweapped to neg terminal to the points. The ammeter connections will have to be swapped as well.

You can't install an off the shelf alternator on a positive ground 2010 without additional changes. Why change? A completely rewired and rebuilt generator costs the same as an alternator without the extra trouble of changing other parts.

if it is a 12 volt, all you have to do is buy the
altinator.
