Question - should the 6 volt battery in the model m be insterted with the + to the -, and vica a versa ? We replaced the old battery (not paying attention to how it had been connected), and had to replace the + wiring because it was to small for the post on the battery, and the - wiring is too large for the - post. Any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks

The tractor is what they call a positive ground, as the others have mentioned. Now Let me tell what I found on my M. When I bought my M, it was hooked up with a negative ground. Darn thing cranked and ran fine. I was working on a hydraulic line and disconnected the battery to gain access. I went back with the negative ground and within 2 days the battery was dead. Well I just knew I had fried somthing electrical like the regulator or generator.I charged the battery and hooked it back up with a positive ground.Thats been pert-near a month ago. Guess I got lucky. She is just a genning.Hope you have the same luck!

Connect the positive post to ground.

To express the thought in different words: Put the cable that is attached to the frame of the tractor on the + post of the battery.
