I HAVE JD 400 BACKHOE HAVE HAD FOR AT LEAST 15 YEAR WORK IT AROUND THE FARM ABOUT 2 TIMES A MONTH FOR THE 15 YEARS AND JUST TODAY HAD TO PUT A WATER PUMP AND HYL.COULPER ON IT SO I HAD TO TAKE THE TIME TO TELL YOU IT HAS LESS REPAIR OUT OF ALL FARM TRACTORS SO FAR PARTS ARE CHEAPER

I don't know about reliability, or anything like that, but the industrial JD400 was based on the normal agricultural 2020 tractor. Basically some frame and sheet metal changes. There were no mechanical changes-except maybe in the transmission for a "shuttle shift" to allow easy forward/reverse direction changes.

To get to the point-find information on the 2020, and most will apply.

a 2020 has 54 hp with a 202 engine a 400 has 219 engine rated at 62 hp.....don't know much more about the 400 ...have 401b..... good tractor

Im looking for information on this backhoe also.
We just got one and Im having trouble with finding parts. I guess a manual or parts manual is the next best thing to start with? I would like to find one at a good price if I can.
