My JD B has the shock and coil spring seat, was this original or an option? If so, I will keep it. But if not I will get the one with the flat channel.

hold on a minute! are you saying that it looks quite simular to the channel seat exept that it has a big tapered spring under the seat (instead of at the base of the channel) and has a shock behind the seat (behind the spring). If it is, then the seat is probably origional. My fathers was this way. My 39 B has the channel seat. I wish I had the pipe type though, I think it looks better.

My father bought a 1941 B JD new. He changed the original seat to a Monroe Easy Rider. It was as you have described the seat on your tractor. It was a great improvement over the original JD seat.
Much more comfortable!

I believe those seat were called an Easy Ride, and was added by the owner. Some had Pan seats, and the one on my 38 A had a square seat for a cushion. They are not John Deere, but its your tractor, and if rode on all day probably ride better than the original. Russ

Optional seat - might be the Knoedler brand.
