John Deere 4020 powershift; early version. I'm having problems getting bad fuel tank gauges from my dealer. Two of the gauge boxes had been opened and resealed; I should not have taken them. I installed them; wouldn't work. My John Deere mechanic came out, rechecked the sender and wire and brought with him a new gauge; didn't work either. He said parts man said that they were having a problem with returned gauges that customers claimed the gauges were not to be working. Parts man clains they could be installed improperly or on wrong tractor and the gauge would be damaged. I can't believe Deere has a problem here. I know we must be missing something. Has anybody out there had this problem?

Some of the early gauges and senders had to be from the same manufacturer. 1 was Stewert/Werner. These needed to both be the same in order for it to work. The gauge has the name around the inside of the glass of the gauge and it is on the sender as well. May not be the case here but have run into this before. Wasn't real happy with deere for that stunt. Was just learning deere then

as i remember your 4020 originally came with the 24 volt starting system and i believe with a positive ground fuel gauge.all the replacement gauges now are negative ground.you must make sure the gauge is hooked up negative ground or it wont work
