1949 JD B.tractor.My question is,can I run the PTO without oil in the powertrol ? Best I can tell gasket is leaking oil from powertrol to differential ( oil in diff.is thin and sandy brown color and powertrol is low on oil), can I replace gear lube and not refill the powertrol till I can repair it, or will that burn up the hyd. pump when I use the PTO to mow with ??

Jerry, without oil in the power-trol pump you will eventually score the gears & pump body if you use the PTO. If the leak is high up or the gasket between the cylinder & case is the cause of the leak you might be able to put enough oil in the power-trol to protect the pump & still not have a leak if you don't use the power-trol.

Clooney, Thanks for the confirmation, I thought that would be the problem. Also thanks for the suggestion, I believe the leak may be high as some oil remains in the powertrol.Next I need to tackle the powertrol problem, this is my 1st tractor so this should be interesting. The powertrol is not operating, understandably, so I'll take it one step at time Jerry
