I have a jd-40 and the touchamatic lift has a stuck piston and the pump keeps blowing the rear seal and putting oil in the oil pan. Does anyone know what the problem is and also anyone in the N. Al area that can build this unit and what the cost is replacement vs. rebuild

Jeff, I am near Florence, Al. I have rebuilt a couple of the units with good luck. The rebuild parts from Deere will cost you about $150, unless you run into some major parts that need replacing,(such as a check valve-$160 each) Some of the salvage yards sell the unit for $200 to $300 Of course you never know what you are getting with a used one. Also even with rebuilding one or a used one - there is no guarntee that it won't leak some at the rockshafts. Those housings get worn and new seals will not stop all the leaks, unless you get lucky and find a good housing. E-mail me if I can be of any help. Wayne.

Jeff, it sounds like a stuck or plugged pressure relief valve in the touch-o-matic, or a crushed or restricted pressure line between the t-o-m & the pump. You should probably install a pressure gauge & check the system pressure.
