Just a guess but, if the engine was stuck ,there was some valves open so I am thinking that the seats and/or valves are rusty and not seating. Don

I would first look at Clooney's advice and if all else fails, you might take a close look at the dist. cap and make sure you don't have a carbon track crossing the electrodes,,,causing both cylinders to fire at the same time. Just examine real close and hope this helps.

36A, it sounds like it is firing on an open valve(s),could be the cam out of time, sticking valve, mag not timed correctly. With the valve lash set correctly turn the flywheel until the L/H exhaust valve is just opening (0 lash), at that time the LHEO on the flywheel should be within 1" of the case mark (3o'clock behind flywheel), if that is ok turn the flywheel until the L/H piston is at TDC compression then back it up 1/2 turn then turn slowly in the running direction & watch the L/H spark plug (it must be hooked to the plug wire & laying on the block) & see if it sparks as the LH impulse lines up with the same case mark. If the cam is timed correctly & the mag is timed correctly you might be fighting a sticking valve or other problem. Watch the valves & if they aren't sticking oil them up good & put about 3 ox oil in each cylinder & pull start it. If it starts then it will probably get better with some run time. If it still won't start post back.

my guess would be the manifold is rotten in the center where it splits off from intake to exhaust. it is letting fire go through the intake.
