Has anyone ever seen a front end loader on a M? I rebuilt the engine on my dad's M several years ago and the tractor is just sitting in the shed. Thought I could put it to good use with a loader. Anyone know where one is or what model number I should look for?

Thanks

I have a model 30 loader for my M. The operator's manual says that the earlier model M's don't have the hydraulic capacity to handle it and you need an upgrade kit from the factory to make it work. The later model M's had an upsized hydraulic system and can handle the loader. I forget the serial number when it changed, but the later ones have two holes in the steel plate where the front axle meets the body for mounting the loader frame. The earlier ones require you to drill the holes. Mine is a '48 and I have an auxiliary PTO hydraulic pump to make it work. Not ideal, but it works. I'll try to remember to look up the serial number.

Jerry,
What you want is a #30 series 1 if you want the original loader for a model M. A #30 series 2 will work also, but they were built for the model 40 tractor. They only difference is the series 1 has a wheel to adjust the digging depth of the bucket on one side of the loader frame, and the series 2 has an adjustment wheel on both sides. Other than that they are same loader. I have a series 1 for my M's, as well as the parts manual and operators manual. If you need any info, post on here and I'll e-mail you. Hope this helps, Aaron

Jerry,

I was always wondering if the M series could have a f-end loader or not? However, I would make real sure that the hydraulics on your M are in real good shape and both the pump and the Touch-O-Matic unit are checked out first by someone that really knows those systems...if that unit is rough in any way, then it will either make that f-end loader jump and shake alot when using, or not hold a load very good...as they just, just my .02 worth...keep us posted.

If you're looking for a John Deere loader I believe a #30 would be correct. Had a neighbor who had an "M" with a loader many years ago, I think it was the same as I have on my "40U", a #30. It must have been a long time ago as his son farmed that farm for a few yrs after his dad retired, but I've farmed it now for 32 yrs!

37D,
Thanks for the info. I thought they might be the same for the 40, 420, etc but wasn't for sure. Haven't seen any # 30's around here so I will watch the adds.

Thanks again
