Joe, I just finished replacing most of the bearings and a couple gears in my B 'cause it had a really nasty growl in it. I can't say exactly which parts were causing the growl, but some of the bearings were in very bad shape due to lot's of condensation in the transmission case over the years. Some of the rollers had 25% rusted away, and a couple of the ball bearings were similarly rotted. After putting it all back together, I know it's got all good parts and is adjusted correctly. But you know what? It still has lot's of noise in it, although much less than when I started the project. It's pretty tough to determine the condition of the bearings without tearing into the transmission; Gears you can pull the cover off ang have a pretty good look at.

This noise could possibly be comming from the reduction gears. Some tractors do make noise here and some don't. I once talked to a guy that worked at JD years ago about this and he said sme made noise right out of the factory.

~Joe, a noisy transmission can be caused by many things from no oil to worn gears, bearings, shafts or just be normal due to straight cut gears & long usage. It depends on the intensity of the noise, when it happens, what gears it happens in what load it happens at if it gets worse hot or at all engine speeds.
~The oil pressure in your 46 is adjusted by a screw on top of the oil filter head inside the crankcase.
