I'm new to the site. I've always liked the sound of John Deeres ever since I was a young boy. I bought a John Deere Model B. It seems to be in pretty good shape and runs good. Tonight I was at the Legion telling the boys about my new hobby and one of them told me that since it is a 2 cylinder I'll need to mix oil with the gas, but I don't know what the mixture is, for my John Deere weedwacker it's 40 to 1, is it the same for my tractor?
Thanks for the help,
Earl

Ask them if they can show you how to wind the rope around the flywheel to start it.

That's probably the best comeback I've heard.

Earl,

Your John Deere B uses gas and has a separate
reservoir for oil. I would suggest that you
go to a John Deere Farm Machinery Dealer and
order a Tractor Manual for your tractor. It
will tell you where everything is located;
what weight oil to use; how to check your oil,
etc.

Earl, I hate to tell you, but someone was pulling your leg. Your B will run fine on gasoline only. Older B's originally ran on Distilate or Kerosene, but even those run on gasoline well. Do NOT mix oil with the gasoline. Have fun!! Steve

~Earl, I think he either misunderstood you or was pulling your leg. A J.D. "B" is a 2-cylinder not a 2 cycle. The 2-cylinder J.D. "B" has a 4 cycle engine just like your car & doesn't need oil mixed with the gas.

Thank them for their good advice, and tell'um that it works great. That they ought to try it in their pickups.

Tell them you are so grateful that the "B" runs extra powerful on 40 to 1 mix. That in thanks, you poured a couple of quarts of two-stroke oil in each of their vehicles tanks. We had a guy at work who was a "super tinker/stinker" and we would pour a quart of two-stroke oil in his truck's tank every month or two. He spent hours looking for the intermittent smokey exhaust problem.

O.K. Let's tell 'em that it's a special experi-
mental 'B', vary rare, and it has an automatic
oil injection sytem that drives off a special
secondary cam gear under the governor. pb

Earl,
Be careful where you hang out- sometimes those grey haired gentlemen like to stretch things a little. Especially on someone a little green.
I wouldn't put oil in my gas unless I wanted to fight mesquitoes.

Hey, and don't forget about the framostat....can't have a squeaky framostat !

Also, ask them if their tractors were equipped a turboencabulators....positive ground, of course.
