I haven't been able to secure a year of manufacture for my tractor from any of the sites, including this one, or the John Deere dealer. Can you help? Thanks!

i have that book in the hard cover form and your # does not match any of them. this is whats listed 2030
134700 1972
157109 1973
187301T 1974
140000L 213350T 1975
145500L

This is exactly how it is listed There is also a foot note that explains that these are starting numbers for US tractors and lists them from the starting serial # and does not include overseas tractors This leads me to the thought were did you get this tractor and is there anything odd like extra front lights not the normal front weights?????

That may explain why the numbers are not listed on any of the info I've seen.

I replaced the solenoid on the starter and it was on a Bosch starter - not a DelcoReme(sp). And of course, the "L" designation, after the serial number indicated Mannheim, Germany. The lights were all on the rear fenders

The 2030 and the 2630 tractors, sold in the USA were built in the DUBUQUE, IOWA factory. They were also built in Mannheim, Germany, for sale in other parts of the world. Deere didn't discontinue US production of this size of utility tractors until 1980, when US production of the 2440 and 2640 tractors ended, and ALL utility tractor production was switched to MANNHEIM. For your tractor to have such a low serial number it definately has to be either a "Canadian" tractor or one that was otherwise imported from most likely Europe. Those tractors which are "grey market" do sometimes get imported and when they do, the US dealer network has no idea about them. The different parts book, let alone actual parts, and the lack of any recorded information about them at all tends to produce "mystery" tractors such as yours. Mostly, the Mannheim tractors which were comparable to the US built tractors also had slightly different model designations---I've heard of Canadian "2130" tractors. When the tractor does have the different model designation, at least it is easier to be sure of what it is. Is it possible that this tractor of yours was originally a 2130, which someone has repainted and redecaled as a 2030?

My tractor was repainted and redecaled before I bought it - by a tractor dealer. I'll check out the 2130 just in case. I did note on www.tractortips.com that beginning in '74 the serial numbers were stamped in the right hand front corner of the frame. That's where mine is. Prior to '74 they were on the side of the transmission. It definitely uses some metric bolts. Did those produced in Canada use SAE or metric? Thanks for your insight!

Friend,
The tractor would have been made in MANNHEIM for sure if it was produced for the Canadian market. It was my understanding that Deere switched to metric bolts for everything , or at least everything designed after about 1965, so I would expect even US built 2030s to be all metric, but for a fact, nothing ever produced in Germany at Mannheim was ever anything but metric.

As to the repainting and redecaling, it sure does sound as if someone might have repainted a 2130 and used the 2030 decals. It would still have the Mannheimwerke serial number and for a fact would be "out of sequence" with what the books list for the 2030.

More of my 25 cents worth! :)

JD70Jim,
I checked the serial number listings for a 2130 at www.tractortips.com and those numbers kind of looked like the JD 2030 numbers. They didn't go low enough to include mine. Thanks for your help!

Here's a conundrum.....just aquired an 1830. Located in Canada. I understand that this is a Canada only model. Built in Mannahiem..... BUT the serial number is 082843L and there is not one Metric bolt on this machine. The block is stamped 11 05 79. Another twist...the type on the plate reads 2130. From tractortips.com the year of manufacture would be before 1975!!

What exactly do I have here????

Thanks for your replies, but that's exactly the problem I'm having. None of the listings show a serial number this low. If you have any other thoughts, I'm open!

John, 2030's were built in Mannheim from 1972 to 1979.
Total built was 18682. Sorry I have no yearly build info. Nigel.

The source I have states 2030s from Mannheim were made 1974, starting serial # 140,000L; & 1975, starting serial# 145,500L. Your serial # does not fit these start #s.Are you sure that is the frame serial # and not from the engine?
