I just wanted GUY to know I checked my 1954 model 50 over the weekend. I am very sure mine is original and it has a Custom Powertrol sticker on the rear.

Thanks for checking! It seems that there are many that say CUSTOM powr-trol. I think I am going to call Travis Jorde and try to get the custom decal for mine. If anyone wants to argue with what's correct I can give them several examples of original tractors that say 'Custom'. Since this is what was on mine originally I will stick with it.
Thanks alot for checkin. I do appreciate it! ...Guy

If I might point out one little thing---CUSTOM POWRTROL: is what is found on a 520. If your tractor HAS got CUSTOM POWRTROL, the rockshaft will be round cross section, with splines on it, like those on a pto shaft. If it has the correct, JOHN DEERE HYDRAULIC POWRTROL (Not CUSTOM) it will have a SQUARE cross section rockshaft. Also, with the CUSTOM POWRTROL, you can use BOTH the rockshaft (3point) AND the hydraulic cylinder at the same time---with regular HYRAULIC POWRTROL you can use one or the other but never both at the same time.

A 50 was made between 1952 and 1956. That makes in 46 to 50 years old. The only way to be sure that the tractor was NEVER repainted would be for the owner to be the original purchaser. That would make you at least in your 70s and the possibility of being sure that it was never repainted would be something I would question in court! Deere did a LOT of substitutions in it's decal sets, 40 years ago. I happen to have a NOS JOHN DEERE FACTORY replacement decal kit for a styled "A" and IT contains the wrong decals. Check the decals shown in an original parts book. THEY do not say CUSTOM POWRTROL, and I can say that for a fact, I have an original dealer edition of PC-675 (John Deere styled A, AR and AO) and IT doesn't show incorrect decals, yet the replacemnt kit, mentioned prev. DOES contain them.

What I am saying is this:A "50" was never equiped with CUSTOM POWRTROL and you can put whatever you like on it. Paint it purple and pink for all I care, but don't expect people who know, to actually believe that the CUSTOM sticker is "original" because it isn't! :) :)

Well, not to stir up a can of worms....but, I do happen to know of two 50's that have the Custom decals on it and absolutely are original. The one is a neighbors and though he is not the original purchaser, his father-in-law was. He has been around the tractor since it was new and has owned it himself for many, many years. This gentleman is somewhere in his low 70's and is the 2nd owner. I've known him for 20+ years, a very honest straight-shooter. Tractor has never been redone. The second example belonged to a friends grandpa - who owned it since new. Tractor has never been redone, has the Custom decal. My personal tractor I would be willing to bet had never been redone, but I haven't been around it all its life so won't get into that. Either way, here are two examples that are known to be original. Based on what I have seen myself and read in the posts, it is very clear - John Deere undoubtedly installed at least 'some' CUSTOM powr-trol decals on the earlier tractors. Be it right or wrong, they did, that is now a known fact. And I do understand the difference between actual CUSTOM and standard HYDRAULIC Powr-Trol, the question is, do I want my tractor to say what I believe it said originally, or not? Guess that one is up to me. I simply wanted to know how many others had known original tractors with the CUSTOM decal. I guess what everyone chooses to believe is up to them.
