Hey, thanks all for your help. I am red-faced but greatful. I posted a message about 2 weeks ago. I had changed the plug wires in my '48 "B" and she wouldn't start. John T and Roy suggested the wires might be crossed, but I thought that was too simple, and was pretty certain that I put them back the way I took them off, and even more cetain that I had them wired the way the "book" said they should be. I was right in one respect..I put them back the way the book says to do it. I was so sure that I was correct that I ignored the suggestion to swap the wires, which cost me a week or so, and probably a year of good battery life while I cranked and cranked, and god only knows how much other damage. Then John T suggested that someone may have set the magneto 180 degrees out and I got to thinking "heck, I've tried everything else", and in desperation I swapped the wires at the magneto. To shorten a long story, once I followed the advice of just about everybody that responded, the tractor started up in about two cranks, just like it always has.
Two lessons learned (again)...never ignore good advice, and never ASSUME anything!
Thanks to all who helped me out on this, hope my stupidity will illuminate the way for someone else.

Gary, glad we could help, I have gotten good advice all my life and like to repay the favors here any chance I can. I learn alot from my friend clooney here whom I consider the finest. The reason I guessed the problem is that my "friend" Henry once crossed my wires at a tractor show as a joke and the first quarter turn of the crank she backfired and kicked back and burned my fingertips and I knew imediatley what was wrong. I havent got him back yet lol but plan to Good Luck Ol John T Nordhoff in Indiana
