I have a 1520 and the hydraulics don't work anymore. The filter has been replaced and the screen has been taken out and cleaned and there is the correct level of fluid. Is there any easy way to tell for sure if the pump is dead before buying a new one?

Thanks

A pressure gauge can be installed on the pump. Use the top plug on the left side of the pump. There is also a filter in the pump itself, it is behind the plug on the right vertical side. Remember the transmission pump supplies inlet oil to the main pump, it could be bad or there is a check valve in the inlet line to the main pump that may cause problems. It is also possilbe that the line(s)(inlet and outlet) to the transmission pump has come loose or split. Hope it is something simple.

I know you can buy gauges to test it, but my understanding is that the gauges cost almost as much as a new pump. Do you mean test gauges or a gauge you would mount there permenantly?

Thanks for the info so far.

As far as testing the transmission pump, that might be best left to the dealer. But you could put a gauge on the front main pump yourself. Take the plug out and take it with you and get what ever adapters you need to install a gauge there. Buy one that goes to 3,000psi. I would not leave it in place permenantly only for testing. I am guessing you could buy a gauge and fittings for less than $50.00 A rebuilt front pump MUCH more!
