I was looking at the john deere parts site for the 1020 and noticed that a horn was listed (part no RE12715). Was this a option on the 1966 1020? and where does it mount on the tractor? Thanks,

John--I believe Curt to be correct as to the location.Once I read that it jarred my brain box. I am sure that the 4 yr old helper can be pretty insistent. Sounds like a nice project. I am going to restore my 1020 in 30 or so yrs when we are both due to retire!

I have a 1120. According to the manual it is practically the same as a 1020.(the manual is for the 1020, 1120 and 1630) Mine has a factory horn installed. It is mounted on the left side of the engine just behind the alternator. There is a mounting bracket that comes off the intake manifold that it hooks to. The horn wire comes out of the factory wiring harness at the same place the alternator wires come out. There is also a picture in the operators manual that shows it in this location. Hope this helps.

John--I think the horn could of been installed easily as I have seen them on newer utility tractors. They are mounted ahead of the rad behind the grill screens. I just checked my ORIGINAL sales brochure for the 1020 2020 tractor (1967 print date) and the equipment list does not show a horn.
