i dont like to look down and see LOW oil pressure,
so im going to adjust the oil pressure in the crank case on my 46B. correct me if im wrong. First i take off the top cover, then i loosen the nut with the threads in the middle. then, i tighten the threads clockwise 1 turn, tighten the nut, start engine( with cover on) and repeat untill it reads med- high? Thanks,

My 48 A was having a low OP problem that would not go away by adjusting the screw you mention. Pulled the crankcase cover, checked all the lines. Oil pump float screen looked clean. Still could not get pressure up so pulled the oil pump. To my surprise the oil pump float screen was clogged with a hardned crud that could not be seen by looking down into the crankcase, even with a bright light. Solvent cleaned it and OP came right up.

Dave has a good point. You could drain the oil, pour in something pretty volatile like lacquer thinner, acetone, or MEK. Let it soak, drain, refill.

Be an easy way to see if it helps, without a lot of teardown. You'd only be out the cost of the solvent...and fresh oil.

Joe, you have the procedure for the 46B. ~If that doesn't help your oil pressure (there is a good chance it won't), suspect the oil filter body (can the filter goes in) has a deformed top due to overtighening the oil filter nut at one time (it only takes once) & oil is leaking from between the filter body & filter head.
~While there are many places that can cause low oil pressure, if you don't see a broken oil line when you pull the cover & the bearings don't seem too loose that would be a good place to look.
~When you have the crankcase cover off, look & feel around the oil pump pick-up screen to see if it is blocked by goop & hardened crud.

I'm probably not remembering this right for your '46, but I thought the oil pressure adjusting screw was on the side of the crankcase under the pulley. It would have a tall hex capnut, and a thinner lock nut. Remove the cap nut, loosen the lock nut, use a screwdriver in the slotted end of the oil pressure adjusting screw. In to increase. It may not take a turn...might only take 1/3...can't say for sure. You can adjust it as the engine is running, and refer to the gage as you do.

I hope I'm not confused. I know that's the way it was adjusted on our '48 "A" and on my 70D.

I didn't think you had to go inside the case to adjust it.

Maybe I am wrong, but I think I read somewhere, you should not adjust the oil pressure while the engine is running. My .02 worth. Don

You can't on the 46 that he has. The adjustment is right under the crankshaft in the case. He would loose his hand.

I've always adjusted them while running. It helps if you have a helper to watch the gauge for you.

The only service book I have handy is the one from my 70 diesel, and it shows the guy adjusting the pressure while he's looking at a gage tapped into the line at the main case.

I know on my "H" you had to remove a pipe plug in the side, and it spit a bit of oil out, but not bad.

His 46 B the adjustment is right below the crankshaft in the crackcase. He would loose a hand if he tryed to adjust it while running.

The late B's you could do it from the outside. Like you said. But the early B's have it in the crankcase.
