I have had to replace the housing that goes around my tractors PTO shaft. It is a plate that the PTO shaft goes through and it houses two gears. When I removed the old unit from my tractor, I saw that there was no gasket between the housing and the rear end of the tractor. I am wondering if there ever was a gasket between these two parts and if there was, does anyone know where I might be able to get a replacement for it? I can make one myself, but I don't what to do that if it is not necessary.

Thank you,
Mike Boyle

Mike,
The 2 gears you are talking about is your hydraluic pump. There is no gasket in there as the surfaces should be very close together so hydraulic oil will be forced though the pump in the Power-trol or Power-Lift. Do not wire brush these surfaces because that may scratch it upand cause it to leak.
Good Luck,
Ryan

I really appreciate you looking this up for me!! For the time being I guess I will just put it all back together and see what happens. Hopefully it will not leak all over.

I looked in the John Deere parts catalog and it does not show any gasket there. Maybe a little silicone seal would be good, or maybe you don't need anything. It's not under pressure.

There's no gasket in the PTO where you mention, as someone else said DON'T wire brush it.
When I do these I clean the surface with carb. cleaner, brake cleaner or whatever I have handy that will cut most anything, just prior to assy. I wipe the surfaces with laquer thinner and then pull all bolts up evenly. Never had a leak.
